Baahubali angers Jains in Karnataka

Telugu film director S.S. Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali has angered Jains in Karnataka for hurting their religious sentiments since the title of the movie is derived from the greatly respected Jain saint Bahubali -a proponent of peace.

The epic movie, which reportedly has a huge budget of Rs.70 crore, will be released in 2015 in two installments. Recently, a video of the making of the movie was released that depicted the protagonist - Prabhas - wielding a sword in a war sequence. The pictures of Bahubali have also been used in the video. Last week, Jain institution Sode Matha issued a legal notice to Rajamouli for hurting their religious sentiments.

The Jain community intends to approach the Karnataka government to settle the matter in case Rajamouli does not change the movie's title. Rajamouli has not reacted so far to the notice in front of the media, as he hopes to tackle it legally.

Hailing from Karnataka, Rajamouli became one of the most successful filmmakers in south India by directing blockbuster Telugu movies.
Initially, he had planned to shoot Baahubali in Karnataka, but the movie is now being shot in Andhra Pradesh.
